Set for a two-day state visit to Kogi state communities

The highlight of my visit will be the launch of the presidential community Peace Initiative in Kogi State, listening to people’s concerns, building peace and social cohesion

During my visit, I will visit some communities and inaugurate community-based peace structures across the 21 local government areas of Kogi State, in a bid to sustain peace and promote political and religious harmony in the region.

This initiative aims to foster cooperation among political, religious, and community stakeholders. Strengthening peaceful coexistence is crucial for addressing insecurity and unlocking the region’s economic potential.

Peace is essential for community wellbeing and a foundation for economic growth and national development. “When there is peace, Nigeria’s vast human and natural resources can support food security, create jobs, and contribute to foreign exchange earnings,”.

Alongside the inauguration, a workshop will be held to further engage community leaders, traditional leaders, political actors, youth and women groups, and religious organisations on strategies for sustaining peace at the grassroots level.

This peace-building initiative will extend beyond Kogi State to other North Central states, including Plateau, Kwara, Nasarawa, Niger, and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The broader goal is to foster regional security, promote sustainable development, and harness the economic opportunities available in the region — particularly through maritime trade and logistics, where Nigeria holds significant untapped potential. The

Local government chairpersons, community and political leaders, youth and women organisations, and religious bodies from Kogi’s 21 local councils are expected to attend the inauguration and workshop.
