Renewed Hope in Action: Delivering Sustainable Electricity to Rural and Underserved Communities

The Rural Electrification Agency has continued to record substantial progress in expanding electricity access to rural and underserved communities nationwide, in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, which prioritizes inclusive development.

In response to our request for a comprehensive list of details of interventions across the North Central states of Benue, Kogi, Kwara, Nasarawa, Niger, Plateau, and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), here are the details of REA intervention in numerous communities : Key achievements in the zone include the execution of 85 grid extension projects, installation of 6,089 standalone solar home systems, deployment of 10,470 solar streetlights, development of 131 solar mini-grids, and the electrification of 216 settlements and clusters.

Together, these initiatives have delivered 42.8 MW of electricity, markedly improving energy access and supply. In addition, 344 projects are currently at various stages of planning and implementation, with an estimated 435,700 connections and projected capacity additions of 113.7 MW. These electrification projects have had transformative impacts on the communities served, facilitating economic activities, improving healthcare delivery, enhancing educational outcomes, and generally improving the quality of life for hundreds of thousands of Nigerians in the North Central region. The Federal Government remains firmly committed to achieving universal electricity access and will continue to prioritize rural and underserved communities in its electrification strategy.
