DAY 2 IN KWARA – Dr. Abiodun Essiet, the senior special assistant to the President on community engagement, North Central, convened a physical session of the Citizens’ Assembly in Kwara South and paid a courtesy visit to the Igbomina traditional council.

Dr. Abiodun Essiet successfully held the physical session of the Citizens’ Assembly in Omu-Aran, bringing together a broad spectrum of stakeholders from across the Kwara South Senatorial District.

In attendance were representatives of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), the Muslim community, farmers, vigilante groups, youth and women organizations, community-based organizations, and traditional rulers from Ekiti, Ifelodun, Irepodun, Isin, Offa, Oke Ero, and Oyun LGAs. Participants engaged in robust discussions, clearly articulating their challenges and priorities, while proposing practical solutions to be conveyed to the President to guide government action.

Following the session, she made a stop at the Igbomina & Ekiti Traditional Council meeting held in Ajase-Ipo, Irepodun LGA, where she had the opportunity to address the council on ongoing Federal Government programmes and interventions across key sectors. She also reassured them of Mr. President’s firm commitment to ending the insecurity currently affecting Kwara State and the nation at large, and to sustaining grassroots engagement as a means of strengthening trust and cooperation between citizens and the Federal Government.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the Council, HRM the Olupo of Ajase-Ipo, Oba Ismail Muhammed-Alebiosu, expressed appreciation to Mr. President for the reforms being implemented to reposition Nigeria, particularly his advocacy for the financial autonomy of local governments, emphasizing that no tier of government should be dependent on another.

His Royal Majesty further commended Mr. President for the foresight in establishing the Office of the Senior Special Assistant on Community Engagement, describing it as “the closest government has ever been to the people.”


Traditional rulers pledged continued support for collaborative efforts aimed at enhancing stability and inclusive growth in the region.
