The Honourable Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, CON, has invited members of the Presidential Community Engagement Team and the National Assembly to participate in a two-day official visit to Lagos State to inspect the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway and engage key stakeholders on the project’s progress and sustainability.

The inspection forms part of the Federal Government’s ongoing efforts to address public concerns regarding flooding, assess the progress of the landmark infrastructure project, and strengthen collaboration with communities and stakeholders to ensure its long-term success.
As part of the two-day engagement, the Honourable Minister of Works, alongside members of the Presidential Community Engagement Team and the National Assembly, will undertake an on-site inspection of the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway. The delegation is also scheduled to pay courtesy visits to the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and the President of the Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, to discuss collaborative approaches to infrastructure development, environmental management, and flood mitigation.

Speaking on the significance of the visit, Senator David Umahi noted that Lagos is home to Nigerians from all six geopolitical zones, making it an ideal location to foster inclusive community engagement. He emphasized that the participation of the Presidential Community Engagement Team reflects the Federal Government’s commitment to engaging communities across ethnic and regional lines while promoting a shared sense of ownership and responsibility for protecting national infrastructure.
A major highlight of the visit will be a comprehensive stakeholders’ engagement session focused on raising public awareness about environmental responsibility. The discussions will encourage proper waste disposal, discourage the dumping of refuse into drainage systems and the blockage of manholes, and reinforce the message that safeguarding public infrastructure is a collective responsibility.
The initiative underscores the Renewed Hope Administration’s commitment to combining infrastructure development with active community participation, ensuring that transformative national projects are preserved and sustained for the benefit of present and future generations.
