As we mark the first anniversary of the launch of the Citizens’ Assembly, we celebrate a bold step in delivering on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, one that prioritizes inclusive governance, citizen participation, and development that leaves no one behind.
In its first year, the Citizens’ Assembly has become a key platform for bridging the gap between the federal government and the grassroots. It has fostered inclusive dialogue, ensuring citizens’ voices shape policies and solutions to local challenges, which aligns with Mr. President’s vision for creating the SSA on Community Engagement office.
Through its sessions and community engagements, the Assembly has facilitated meaningful dialogue between diverse stakeholders, including community members, traditional institutions, civil society organizations, and government representatives. These engagements have helped to identify pressing local issues and co-create practical solutions to address developmental needs.
The Citizens’ Assembly has contributed to improvements in essential services, social infrastructure, and community economic empowerment initiatives. With over 150 community reports received through our committed volunteers, we have addressed gaps in basic amenities, infrastructural development, education, health, security, empowerment, and livelihoods. Furthermore, it has provided a platform for community volunteers to participate in decision-making processes, building capacity and nurturing a shared responsibility for sustainable development.
In the words of Dr. Amina Salihu, MacArthur Foundation – “By one single stroke, of connecting the government and the people, Abiodun Essiet has taken the office of the President and elevated the citizens’ office. “
None of these milestones would have been possible without the dedication of our tireless volunteers across Benue, Kogi, Kwara, Nasarawa, Niger, Plateau, and the FCT. Your passion and perseverance remain the engine of this movement. We are equally grateful to our network of stakeholders, including traditional rulers, religious leaders, informal groups, CSOs, NGOs, MDAs, state and local governments, for their unwavering partnership in amplifying voices and delivering real impact to underserved communities.
Looking ahead, the Citizens’ Assembly remains committed to deepening community engagement, strengthening partnerships, scaling its impact, and serving as a catalyst for the Renewed Hope Agenda.
