North Central Security Summit: Strengthening Regional Coordination for Peace and Security

The Security Summit Planning Committee has intensified preparations for the upcoming North Central Security Summit scheduled for August 31, 2026, with preparatory visits to Benue and Nasarawa States.

Benue State, the host state, was the first point of call, where the team engaged key stakeholders on logistics, participation and areas of collaboration to ensure a successful and impactful summit.

The committee also engaged stakeholders in Nasarawa State, with a strong call for Governor Engr. Abdullahi A. Sule to take the lead in mobilising other North Central Governors and critical stakeholders around a common security agenda.

The summit, backed by the Minister of Defence, Gen. Christopher Musa (Rtd.), and the SSA to the President on Community Engagement, North Central, Dr. Abiodun Essiet, is being positioned as more than a gathering for speeches. It will bring together Governors, security agencies, traditional and community leaders, farmers’ associations, development partners and other stakeholders to agree on concrete and measurable solutions to the region’s security challenges.

The message is clear: development cannot be sustained without security. The summit must move beyond business as usual and deliver actionable commitments that protect communities and create the foundation for lasting development across the North Central.
