The Citizens’ Assembly
The Citizens’ Assembly on Community Engagement (North Central) is established under the auspices of the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Community Engagement (North Central). It aims to enhance community engagement, dialogue, and collaboration within the North Central States of Nigeria comprising of Benue, Kogi, Kwara, Nasarawa, Niger, Plateau and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), through active participation and advocacy.
Key Principles
Co-Creation: The assembly encourages active participation and collaborative problem-solving.
Solution-Oriented: Beyond raising issues, members actively contribute to finding solutions.
Effective Communication: The secretary and assistant secretary play a crucial role in documenting and disseminating information.
Objectives
Foster meaningful community engagement and dialogue across the North Central region
Promote civic participation and local development initiatives
Promote civic participation and local development initiatives
Provide timely, accurate and verifiable information on local opportunities and challenges to the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Community Engagement (North Central).
- Maintain productive relationships with key stakeholders, including traditional rulers, local government executives, and councilors.
Support and participate in state-level and regional programs and projects.
MEMBERSHIP
- The assembly comprises one representative per ward from each of the six states in the North Central region and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
- Members are volunteers committed to advancing community interests and development.
Responsibility
- Information Dissemination: Members shall gather and promptly relay verifiable information on opportunities and challenges in their constituencies to the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Community Engagement (North Central).
- Stakeholder Engagement: Maintain cordial relationships with traditional rulers, local government chairpersons/executives, councilors and other major stakeholders to facilitate collaboration and cooperation.
- Project Participation: Volunteers will be actively involved whenever there is a programme or project to be implemented within their respective states.
- Monthly Meetings: Convene virtually at least once a month to discuss pertinent issues, share updates, and strategize on community engagement initiatives.
Governance and Coordination
The assembly operates under the guidance and oversight of the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Community Engagement (North Central), assisted by the seven state coordinators
The Assembly shall be headed by a coordinator (Known as the Assembly Coordinator) to be nominated or elected by members of assembly
Reporting and accountability
- Members shall submit regular reports on their activities, achievements, and challenges to the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Community Engagement (North Central).
- Accountability mechanisms will ensure transparency and effectiveness in achieving assembly objectives.
COMMUNICATION AND COLLABORATION
- Utilize digital platforms and communication channels for effective information sharing and coordinationamong members and stakeholders
- Seek opportunities for collaboration with relevant organizations and institutions to enhance community
development efforts.
CODE OF CONDUCT
- Members are expected to uphold principles of integrity, impartiality, respect, and
confidentiality in all interactions and activities
