Presidential Community Engagement Team Pays Working Visit to the National Identity Management Commission to Strengthen NIN Awareness and Access

The Presidential Community Engagement Team led by Dr. Abiodun Essiet Senior Special Assistant to the President on community engagement NC paid a working visit to the Director-General of the National Identity Management Commission, Engr. Abisoye Coker-Odusote, at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja today. The visit focused on strengthening collaboration to enhance public awareness of NIMC’s activities, deepen community engagement, and ensure citizens are fully carried along in the National Identification Number (NIN) registration process.

Discussions emphasized the importance of ward-centered registration and sensitization, gathering community feedback, addressing complaints, and supporting Nigerians to understand the procedures for seamless enrolment, ensuring that every Nigerian across all wards is registered and issued a NIN, enabling citizens to benefit from Federal Government programmes, interventions, and opportunities.

Further deliberations covered NIMC’s core mandates, including the issuance of the unique 11-digit National Identification Number, registration of Nigerians and legal residents, identity authentication and verification services. The Commission also outlined ongoing efforts to reduce application processing time and strengthen collaboration with other government agencies.

To improve accessibility, NIMC has introduced the shortcode *346#, which allows citizens, including those without smartphones to access NIN-related services and information. In addition, the Commission has developed the NINAuth mobile application, available on iOS and Google Play Store, enabling users to instantly verify their NIN and control access to their personal data for enhanced privacy and security.

The Commission also noted the availability of a toll-free support line and plans to engage frontline partners to support enrolment at the ward level, reinforcing its commitment to inclusiveness and ensuring no Nigerian is left behind.
